Damilola 'Dami' Okeke

Broadcast media is a remarkable

vehicle for education, inspiration and transformation.

Dami Okeke

Dami's  abilities, talents and gifts are many, but it's THE PERSON SHE IS that you can't put a price on!

Sam Hailes, Editor Premier Christianity magazine

Dami was born in Nigeria, and moved to the UK age seven. Growing up in South London, Dami was confronted by challenges of gang culture and youth violence. Unfortunately some of her peers became victims of knife crime, whilst others went on to serve prison sentences. Dami was determined to become what she could not see around her, and a sign post of hope for others to do the same.

Dami's professional experience began as a teenage volunteer at Youth Performing Arts Centre, Second Wave in Southeast London. There she discovered her vocal, acting talent, and love for spoken word poetry.

Alongside her peers she also developed her critical thinking skills and her own voice to implement positive change in her community. During her years at Second Wave she quickly advanced into employment as Programme Administrator, and later Youth Arts Practitioner. She was the Workshop Facilitator for 'Girl Factor' working with young women age 10 -19 years, using performing arts to develop their creativity and confidence (tackling themes including bullying, peer pressure, consent). She also toured the city of London's schools with a company of performers to deliver a UK government funded initiative tackling youth violence and radicalism.

Dami began her career in broadcast media as a young adult, during her final year at university. She gained an internship at Premier Christian Radio, whilst studying Media and Culture Studies at the renown University of the Arts London. After graduating she gained employment at Premier as an Assistant Producer. Over the years she progressed, and became the Deputy Station Director of Premier Christian Radio, the leading faith-based radio station in the UK.

Dami is passionate about using media as a vehicle to empower, educate and inspire others. She has witnessed the transformative impact of media, whether that's an individual comforted by a song on the radio, or a generation dreaming beyond limits because they discovered the archived stories of pioneers.

After over a decade in commercial radio and also mentoring young people, Dami is now using her experience to offer a variety of services. She is currently working on a number of exciting projects, you can follow her on social media to find out more!
